One of Fundação Joana Vasconcelos’s main goals is to support education through Art. Hence, the foundation awards scholarships and grants to Arts related projects and initiatives.
The foundation also supports a range of initiatives that contribute to the development of arts and cultural education, through creative consultancy to external initiatives, hosting cultural and educational activities, as well as promoting guided tours to the artist’s studio.
Joana Vasconcelos also participates in conferences on a regular basis, contributing to the discussion on the role of arts and culture in the society, as well as sharing her vision about matters that are relevant in building a better world.
A LIFE-CHANGING OPPORTUNITY
We are happy to take part in Homo Faber Fellowship, a new education initiative for craft graduates and master artisans, a programme developed by the Michelangelo Foundation. The seven-month programme is designed for duos of master artisans and young talents to facilitate the transmission of skills and enable craft graduates to take the first steps towards a profession in the craft sector.
EXPANDING HORIZONS
Degroof Petercam partnered with the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation to hold an international conference in Lisbon. To highlight the way an art collection is created and maintained, with the contributions of Guta Moura Guedes, João Pinharanda (Director at the MAAT Art, Architecture and Technology in Lisbon) and (visual artist) Joana Vasconcelos.
A PROMISING FUTURE
As of today, Évora University wins a new grantee. Bruna Gerardo, a 2nd year student of the Degree in Visual Arts and Multimedia, with a special interest in combining traditional and digital techniques, was the candidate chosen in 2023 by the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation, pursuing a protocol first signed in 2015.
FROM INDIANA TO LISBON
After the hiatus caused by the pandemic, Joana Vasconcelos Foundation has partnered once again with the Study in Portugal Network (SiPN) protocol, developed by the Luso-American Foundation for Development (FLAD) aiming to welcome students from North American universities during the Summer.

In order to support artistic education, and pursuing a protocol signed in 2015, these grants will once again sponsor two promising young women from attending the Visual Arts and Multimedia degree at the Arts School, Évora University latest bet.
INVESTING IN THE FUTURE
The name of the scholarship holder benefiting from the grant awarded by the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation in partnership with the University of Évora this year has been revealed. It goes to Francisco de Carvalho Nunes Martins da Costa, attending the 3rd curricular year of the Design degree in that institution.
ART ARRIVED TO COLOMBO
Joana Vasconcelos was the ambassador of the Art Arrived to Colombo award, in search of new creative talents to come.
ART SCHOLARSHIPS
Support for arts education is what moves forward the scholarships granted for five years now by the Joana Vasconcelos Foundation, in partnership with the University of Évora. This year, the scholarship holders are Júlia Kovács and Maria Frias Vila Lobos, attending the second year of the master's degree in “Artistic Practices in Visual Arts” and the second year of the degree in “Visual and Multimedia Arts” respectively.
GILLES LIPOVETSKY AT JOANA VASCONCELOS STUDIO
The French philosopher Gilles Lipovetsky visited Portugal and came to Joana Vasconcelos studio for a conversation with the artist.
CONNECTING HEALTHCARE
Joana Vasconcelos took part in the conference Connecting Healthcare, which had the renowned neuroscientist and author António Damásio as the keynote speaker.
SER ARTISTA EM PORTUGAL [BEING AN ARTIST IN PORTUGAL]
Joana Vasconcelos visited a school in Loulé, South Portugal, to speak with the students about her path as an artist and inspire those who dream becoming artists.
QUEM DÁ MAIS?
Fundação Joana Vasconcelos supports the auction "Quem dá mais?", organized by the students of the Master's Degree in Architecture of the University of Porto, which aims to finance a study trip to the "Le Corbusier Route".
The auction includes 90 drawings, photographs, serigraphs and other signed original works by renowned arquitects and artists such as Siza Vieira, Souto Moura, Norman Foster, Vhils and Joana Vasconcelos, among many others.
SUMMER INTERNSHIPS | FLAD – LUSO-AMERICAN DEVELOPMENT FOUNDATION
Fundação Joana Vasconcelos is part of the program Study in Portugal Network (SiPN), developed by the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD) to bring students from North American universities to study in Portugal for a semester, academic year, or summer. It aims to deepen knowledge about Portugal and Portuguese major universities and institutions in North America.
FIA TALKS
On the occasion of the 2018 edition of FIA Lisboa – International Fair of Handcraft, Joana Vasconcelos joined the fashion designers Filipe Faísca and Nuno Gama in a round-table about the cultural heritage of the contemporary design.
AGREEMENT WITH THE LISBON SHCOOL OF EDUCATION
Fundação Joana Vasconcelos has signed an agreement with the Lisbon School of Education to provide annual internships for students of the Art and Culture Mediation Degree.
JOANA VASCONCELOS – EDUCATIONAL TOUR
Fundação Joana Vasconcelos devised, together with Académie de Nice, a unique educational project - Joana Vasconcelos – Tournée Educativa, which will be on tour around the schools of the French area of Côte d’Azur.

LUZ - A SHORT FILM ABOUT DANIEL MIGUEL
Students of Audiovisual and Multimedia at the School of Communication and Media, in Lisbon, Cláudia Silva and Joana Teixeira made a short film about Daniel Miguel, who is now part of Joana Vasconcelos's team for nearly two years after having completed an internship under the Foundation's internship programme.

GRANT JOANA VASCONCELOS - UNIVERSITY OF ÉVORA
Fundação Joana Vasconcelos has signed an agreement with the University of Évora, aiming to award scholarships to students of this institution.
Aiming to fulfil one of its main goals – to support artistic education – the Foundation is awarding the Grant Joana Vasconcelos to students of Visual Arts and Multimedia and Design of the School of Arts of the University of Évora.
ABERTURA DE ATELIÊS DE ARTISTAS
Joana Vasconcelos studio has joined, once again, the Abertura de Ateliês de Artistas (Open Artists’s Studios), organised by Associação Castelo D’If. The 5th edition of this initiative gave the public the opportunity to visit dozens of artists’s studios in Lisbon, from 17 to 19 October 2014.
3rd PRESENT IN THE FUTURE 2014 – SEARCHING FOR FREEDOM
Joana Vasconcelos took part in the 3rd Meeting Present in the Future, organised by Fundação Francisco Manuel dos Santos, which gathered more than 50 Portuguese and international speakers at Centro Cultural de Belém, in Lisbon, on 3 and 4 October 2014, to discuss Freedom.

Joana Vasconcelos was part of the jury for the initiative 20 Anos, 20 Valores, organised to celebrate the 20 years of TV channel TVI. 20 of the best 20-year-old students, from 20 different fields of study were challenged to present their vision of the future or a project that possibly will make the difference in their area of expertise.
