PORTUGAL DOS PEQUENITOS'S 75TH ANNIVERSARY
Portugal dos Pequenitos, a recreational-educational park that recreates children-sized monuments and regional Portuguese houses, celebrates its 75th anniversary with a work by Joana Vasconcelos.
Invited by Fundação Bissaya Barreto, the park's owner, Joana Vasconcelos created Casa de Chá [Tea House]. The artists’ giant wrought iron teapots, such as Miss Jasmine (2010) and Pavillon de Thé (2012), were the starting point for this work, whose enlarged scale has now been reduced to Portugal dos Pequeninos's. Decorated with jasmine plants, Casa de Chá will be an arbour-sculpture inviting the little ones, and only them, for the 5 o'clock tea.
The opening will take place on 8 June, within a programme of activities especially directed to children. There will be also an official ceremony with the presence of the Prime-Minister.
