SIRI HUSTVEDT AT JOANA VASCONCELOS STUDIO
On 22 May 2014, Joana Vasconcelos received at her studio the writer Siri Hustvedt for the launch of her latest novel, The Blazing World.
The book was presented by Portuguese writer Lídia Jorge, followed by a talk between Joana Vasconcelos and the author, moderated by Karen Wright, columnist of The Independent.
The Blazing World tells the story of Harriet Burden, a visual artist struggling to succeed in New York's art scene. She decides to implement the experience of using three male identities to sign and exhibit her work. This experience reveals the prejudices in the art world and shows how gender, race and fame can influence the perception of a work of art.
