PEARLY GATES
“We share the same values. We both love tradition, craftsmanship and care for the environment.” When Artistes à la Une challenged Joana Vasconcelos to pick a muse for inspiration, she immediately thought of Stella McCartney. And went on to create "Pearly Gates" through a collage of fabrics from her latest collection and sequin applications.
The artwork will be exhibited at Palais de Tokyo, in Paris, auctioned for charity and features in the latest Madame Figaro issue: «Joana Vasconcelos, Portuguese artist born in 1971, brilliantly handles the art of provocation. Her shiny Marilyn pumps, which shone brightly in the Glass Gallery at Versailles Palace in 2012, were in fact a stack of stainless steel pans and lids! Her creative process is thus based on the decontextualisation of everyday objects to offer a critical vision of society, and in particular of the place given to women. She exhibits her work all over the world.»
